The Temperate Zone

This is a comic I just finished about a tree in a strange land. It is based on a pre-existing story that I love, with some light tweaks. I thought I'd go all hand drawn with this one, then color and text digitally. I like the way it turned out, I hope you do too.

Well, it's been a while. I've been out fighting dragons and raising sweet potatoes for sometime now, and let me tell you, it's a full time job. And now that it's getting cold, and I can only grow a couple potatoes inside, I've got some free time and headspace. So I've been able to lightly dabble in the other half of my brain.

Here are a couple drawings from my sketchbook. Trying to dust off the cobwebs and find a solid train track.

First drawing in MONTHS!

This is an angry tree. I like the stories my friends came up for 'her'. She attracts little kids with her beautiful fragrant flowers, and then eats them! Or maybe tell them riddles, the pretty flowers being the prize for facing one's fears. I love the imagination.

I thought about writing a comic about squirrels, so here are some character sketches. I don't know if I'm fully hot on the idea.. There are already some pretty good squirrel stories out there. I do love them critters though!

The relationship between Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and the mini-kawmik The Soon and The Mun

Well, this is an interesting coincidence! While doing a little market research for a new kawmik, I found this video..

It's by J-pop Queen, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and it's called Mottai-Nightland. I think it's about this girl having nightmares and weird dreams, but it could be a commercial for candy, I'm not too sure.
What I found in the video was a couple scenes of her dancing with a character that has the moon as his head and is dressed up in a suit. This is just like a couple scenes from The Soon and The Mun mini-kawmik! Let me show you.

Here they are ballroom dancing, with large champagne flutes swaying in the background.

And here are two scenes from the book.

Notice the similarities. In the book the Moon is wearing purple, just like the Moon in the video. And although the male dancer in the book is the sun, he is wearing the same suit as the Moon in Kyary's video, even right down to the bow tie! Also note that the Moon's head in the video is yellow, just like the Sun's head in the book. It's almost as if the director for the music video took both these pages from the book, and put them into one beautifully, quirky dance scene!

The other scene that I'd like to point out is later in the video. The two are dancing in a bubble, which is what comes out of the girls face when she is dreaming, just like when the characters in the book dream!!

Could this be just a big coincidence, a scandal of creative thievery, or a weird cross cultural conspiracy somehow tied to the Illuminati?! Well, I'd like to think so!

Captain Compost

Well, it's been a while, but I've been working on my first mini-comic. It's called "Clean & Green", and it's about saving our world! One wrapper at a time. Here's a little preview. We're finishing up, and going to print soon!

Going through the old Creaturon files I found this unused gem. The Pygmy Slow Loris from Southeast Asia. Isn't he so cute?!

Sooper Moose!!

A new friend has popped into my life! His name is Sooper Moose! His main duty in life is to save the forest and help all its inhabitants. He also likes to mow peoples lawns when they're not looking, and eat candy.

Meerkats

Another character for the Creaturon cards. The cute and cuddly Suricata suricatta! ... or better known as the Meerkat.

Creaturon sample pack

Finally! I've been working on these cards for a few months now, and the sample pack just came in! It's a card game called Creaturon. The players play the creatures off of one another comparing the animal's stats and their real life attack and defense moves. I have Illustrated half the creatures in the first pack of cards.
